That girl.

I wrote this two and a half years ago and never published it. I’m trying not to do that thing where I write and keep it to myself anymore.

We’re not so different, you and I.

People like to describe us as mysterious, enigmatic. Funnily enough, we’re not all that mysterious, when you really take the time to think about it.. it’s just that most people don’t take the time to think about it. We’re not necessarily quiet or shy, but observant. Our silence is based in our need to feel out our environments, to get a sense of where we might fit in, to get comfortable. Once we find that level of comfort, we fit right in. We’re introverted, but in the right environment, we can be quite social. Our senses of humour might be one of the best things about our personalities, allowing us to find humour in every day life. It appeals to many, and it’s not difficult for us to find some witty observation to make about most situations. Rarely satisfied with anything short of the best, we crave perfecion, and are famed for taking our sweet and steady time to achieve it, or the next best thing.

People ask all the time, how are you still single? Why are you still single?

And the simple answer is that there isn’t one. We don’t really know. And sometimes, it’s frustrating. I mean, we’re good people, right?

We go about our days, along our very different paths, and people respond to the good we do and the impacts we have on their lives. People might even find themselves attracted to that about us. It’s not a case that we think we’re better than they are, or think of ourselves as too good for them.

Far from it. We know exactly what we’re looking for. We’re the type of people who seek the depth, truth and beauty nestled within each person we meet; every person is beautiful in their own, unique way, and we want to find it and love that about them. But not many other people think that way, too. Not many people take the time. So based on previous experiences, we’ve sort of reluctantly accepted that the person who will find the beauty in us is not easily found.

Why am I doing all this? Why am I saying all this?
Because I understand you.

I am that girl.
And I want you to know that yes, I’m here, and I’m waiting.
